What is Load & Performance Profiling?
A Load & Performance test is a test specifically designed to gage an application's ability to function properly under load. During a load test, IronLevee's Performance Engineer's will use our vast infastructure and custom developed suite of applications to generate real-world load simulating thousands (or more) of cocncurrent users. Our load testing capabilities and suite of tools far exceed those of other firms who simply record and playback some LoadRunner script they force you to create. What are the benefits of a Load Test?
- Provide management with a detailed understanding of the current capabilities of the application to handle extreme load.
- Provide engineering with a detailed understanding of the application bottlenecks and ways to further optimize.
- Create a known baseline for specific hardware configurations.
- Create a basis for future IT decision making and resource allocation.
- Save money by eliminating the need to purchase high priced load testing tools.
- Avoid the high costs of maintaining your own performance test bed.
What is the process of a Load & Performance Test?
Our Load & Performance Profiling service starts by defining specific test criteria like concurrency time frame, expected sustained load, expected peak load and more. We then configure our distributed test environment to provide your application with true, diverse traffic streams to simulate real-world activity against your application and server[s]. While your application is under test, our performance engineers will monitor your system resources to spot and record bottlenecks for bottleneck remediation efforts. We will finish by providing a detailoed report outlining the tests run, the results and our bottleneck remediation suggestions.![]() |
Test Definition -- This beginning stage is probably one of the most important and yet most skipped step by inexperienced load testers. If you have not clearly defined your test criteria and expected results, you have nothing to test against and you create confusiion during reporting phase. |

Test Environment Configuration -- At this stage, IronLevee's performance engineers will configure our test infastracture to best suite your application and test needs to provide the highest quality simulated traffic in the industry. |

Load & Performance Test Run -- Now a series of tests are run against your application testing for load, soak, stress and scalability capabilities. While the tests are run, our performance engineers will monitor system resources and server behavior looking for signs of instability and performance bottlenecks. |

Reporting & Remediation -- Lastly, we will present our test results and remediation suggestions in a clear, detailed report. We will even assist with remediation efforts if neccessary. |
What is the difference between load, soak, stress and scalability testing?
- Load Testing -- This type of test is designed to test the application and system's ability to operate under suspected load. Suspected load is based off of historic data as well as customer expectations. This should always be the first test run when performaning a load & performance audit.
- Stress Testing -- This test is what most people think about when they think about load testing. This test is to provide detailed statistics on the breaking point of the application/hardware configuration. Our security engineers will increase the load until the application starts to show instability and breaking points (such as server errors, timeouts, unrealistic page load times, etc.)
- Soak Testing -- This is somewhat of an extension to Load Testing but is designed to test completely different failure points. During a soak test, our performance engineers will generate the predefined load used in the Load Test but will run the test for hours or even days to test the application's ability to handle the suspected load over a long period of time. This test is good for exposing memory leaks, garbage collection and other prolonged load issues.
- Scalability Testing -- While testing the scalability properties of your application, IronLevee's performance engineers will be attempting to verify if the load, soak and stress testing results conform to a linear scale or not. What this means is we want to know if we double the hardware, will we get twice as much performance capabilies or not. If not, is it more or less?
Why IronLevee Consulting??
![]() |
Independant -- IronLevee has the unique ability to remain unbiased and untainted in our analysis due to the simple fact that we do not sell, or partner with vendors who do sell, hardware or software solutions to anything we may find or suggest as a mitigation method to close any security holes that exists. You can rest assured that our results and recommendation are free from ulterior motives |

Our Method -- IronLevee's custom developed Load & Performance test tool suite is unique in the industry due to the fact that we do not use pre-defined static tests or any type of log reply or record and playback testing. Our application simply needs a few basic input parameters like the starting URI and the load you wish to simulate and it will begin to CRAWL your application generating it's own cache of links to test. Let's face it, when does real world traffic ever show 3,000+ concurrent users all submitting the same form or viewing the same page at the same time? This type of traffic is simply unrealistic and is subject to false positives due to caching and other perfomance enhancement techniques. |
